Call for applications to Nordplus 2016


The Nordplus programme of the Nordic Council of Ministers, invites Nordic and Baltic teachers, educators and their institutions to apply for programme funds for the year 2016. The total amount available for the coming round of applications is 9.1 million euro. Deadline for applications is March 1st 2016.

Non-formal education as a tool for integration of socially excluded groups


“Only the teacher who is not afraid of changing himself and who is learning over his whole lifetime is able to teach and to encourage others to be creative, entrepreneurial and responsible”, - this was the slogan under which Nordplus Adult Education Program Project “Transforming losers into winners” was implemented over the period from 1 September 2014 to 31 August 2015. Latvia was represented in the project by the association “Education Innovation Transfer Centre”.

Sharing an experience on the work with pupils with special needs


Riga Special Boarding Primary School No 5 (Latvia) implemented the mobility project "Mobility project for capacity building of teachers’ professional” within the framework of the programme Nordplus Junior 2014 until 31 August 2015. Experience exchange took place among the schools in Norrköping, Sweden.

Proceedings of the conference WIRE 2015 has been published


Proceedings of the international conference „Week of Innovative Regions in Europe 2015” has been published today. The conference took place in Riga, Latvia on June 4 – 5 and was hosted by the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU, bringing together more than 300 participants from 31 countries.

Trust: European Research Co-creating Resilient Societies

“To every great question of our time, Europe is the answer and I believe the Social Sciences and Humanities can show us how”, Commissioner Moedas declares. In his speech at the high-level conference entitled Trust: European Research Co-creating Resilient Societies, that took place 29-30 October at the at the Belgium Royal Academy of Sciences in Brussels, Carlos Moedas, EU Commissioner for Research and Innovation affirmed that even though Europe has been shaken at its foundation and questioned, Europe is still the answer and social sciences and humanities are the key to understanding societal challenges and to building up trust for more resilient societies.

Latvia to become European centre for innovation and research for one week


Europe has become a global leader in research and innovation to reach and maintain an even development among all its regions. With this in focus, 400 European leaders in research and innovation – science policy-makers, researchers and business representatives – will meet in Riga from 3 to 6 June at a unique European research and innovation event – Week of Innovative Regions in Europe (WIRE 2015). Held annually since 2010, WIRE 2015 will be hosted by the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the EU.
