I. Application conditions

Citizens from countries which have concluded an agreement with Latvia or offer scholarships for Latvian citizens and academic staff can apply for the Latvian state scholarships. To see countries, citizens of which are eligible to apply for the scholarships, look at the section ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS. In addition to the countries mentioned in the list, citizens of:

  • Namibia;
  • Senegal;
  • Ethiopia;
  • Guinea-Bissau;
  • Fiji

are eligible for Summer Schools 2024.

Only students, academic and research staff of foreign higher education institutions are eligible for the Latvian scholarship for participation in summer schools.

II. Application procedure

Information on how to apply for the scholarship for participation in summer schools can be found on the website of the higher education institution in Latvia organizing the summer school. The website will give details on all the necessary documents:

  1. Application form of the summer school.
  2. Curriculum vitae.
  3. Motivation letter.

The necessary documents for the summer schools must be submitted directly to the organizers of the summer schools and they will inform all the applicants about the results of the scholarship competition.

The call for applications is open on February 2024, the deadline is 1 April 2024.

III. Financial provisions

The amount of the Latvian scholarship granted by the VIAA for summer school is 1000 EUR per person for the duration of the summer school.

The scholarships will be transferred by the VIAA to the summer school organizers, no money will be handed out to the Latvian scholarship winners.

The participants of the summer schools have to cover travel expenses from the country of origin to the summer school location in Latvia themselves.

IV. Evaluation of applications and information on results

The final decision on granting scholarships will be made by the evaluation committee of VIAA. Higher education institutions will inform all applicants on the results.
