The Riga Summer School will feature lectures and workshops about the identity of Riga, as well as provide an opportuntity for small creative teams of students to work on their own short films about neighborhoods of the city of Riga. The summer school this year will also organize visits to Estonian capital Tallinn and Lithuanian capital Vilnius, thus becoming a truly Baltic event. Besides lectures and fieldwork, the summer school also features a rich cultural and social program. It promises to be especially colorful this year, as Riga owns the hornor of being the European Captial of Cuture 2014.
The participation fee for the Riga Summer School is 500 EUR, including tuition, accomodation, local travel (including the trip within the Baltics) and some meals. Participation fee be paid after receipt of confirmation. The transportation to and from Riga is not included in this price. Students from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Croatia, Estonia, Italy, Israel, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, South Korea, China, United Kingdom, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Spain, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Hungary, Uzbekistan, United States, Austria, Denmark, Island, Japan, Norway, Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany and Sweden can apply for the Latvian government scholarship (through our application form). Students from Germany can also apply for summer school scholarship at DAAD, as this year the Riga Summer School is among recommended summer schools (application through DAAD website). Other students, including from Latvia, are encouraged to look for other scholarship opportunities in their home countries and internationally.

Call for applications for participation in Riga Summer School 2014 – a hands-on documentary filmmaking program for jouralism, media and film students from all over the world – is now open. This year the Department of Communication Studies of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Latvia organizes the summer school already for the fourth time. It will take place in the Latvian capital from August 3 – 17, 2014. The application deadline is April 30, 2014.
